Casa Mondo: Food is the first book in the Unevaluated Essays series, edited by Martí Guixé. Published quarterly, this series explores theories, essays, and forecasts aimed at understanding the disordered world emerging in the 21st century.

In this narrative essay, Guixé delves into what food is and what it represents today, offering a theory on the evolving relationship between food, the home, and new uses, especially in light of the pandemic that has reshaped our daily lives. The book expands on a broader reflection of the home, with a specific focus on cooking and food design—subjects close to Guixé’s heart. As the virtual world grows ever more important, food remains one of the few tangible experiences left, with the power to redefine our relationship with nature through its flavours, smells, and textures.

A pioneer in food design, Guixé compiles texts and illustrations originally created for Casa Mondo, the first virtual exhibition at Maxxi, which launched on Instagram in June 2020. As co-curator Domitilla Dardi notes, Guixé’s work reveals a sharp, filter-free vision of the world, always infused with a vital touch of irony.
